Tips on how to be a better reader

Photo by Road Trip with Raj on Unsplash

If you are one of those countless people who don’t make a habit of reading regularly, you might just be missing out.

Reading has a significant number of benefits- mental stimulation, stress reduction, memory improvement, improved concentration, and vocabulary enhancement to name a few.

People who read no books wished they read a few. And ones who read a few wished they read more. And ones who read more wished they read more of better books.

So how do adults especially busy office goers read more and better books? …

The Bhagavad Gita, often referred to as the Gita, is a 700-verse Hindu scripture that is part of the epic Mahabharata, commonly dated to the second century BCE. The Gita is set in a narrative framework of a dialogue between Pandava prince Arjuna and his guide and charioteer Krishna, an Avatar of the Hindu Lord Vishnu.

The Gita means “The song of the God”. It is indeed a song- a work of art, as well a deep statement of truth. It is by means the most loved scripture in India- concise, profound, poetic and deeply inspiring.

And then came along the barrage of other thinking approaches….Systems thinking, Parallel thinking, Non- linear thinking, Art of Science thinking and Science of Art thinking, Creative thinking, Critical thinking and on and on…..

By the way for the ones who abuse and over do these concepts, Lateral Thinking is only a tool to get unstuck. After…

The lower caste and untouchable women were expected to pay the government a tax on their breasts, as soon as they started developing breasts. The tax was evaluated by the tax collectors depending on the size of their breasts.

The village-legend has that Nangeli was a woman who supposedly, cut…

Learning to negotiate at the workplace

Good negotiations at the workplace help build long lasting solutions and relationships and also avoid future problems and conflicts. Knowing the benefits of being a strong negotiator, is quite a no- brainer.

Unfortunately for me ,in all these years of my corporate job, have always struggled to be a strong negotiator. I have settled for less and a not so harmonious solution but not persevered enough to be successful. This is been an area of development and constant feedback that I have received from my managers and mentors. Looking back, I wonder and ponder if I did ever try too…

Spiti Valley is a remote ,cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalayas in Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The name “Spiti” means “The middle land”, i.e. the land between Tibet and India.
